There's a new addon in the world of PvE Moonkin and it's gunning to be one of the most vital addons since SnA hit the streets with internal cooldown and DoT trackers. This addon,
WiseEclipse allows a player to increase his/her chances of proccing a Solar Eclipse immediately following the cessation of a Lunar Eclipse. I say cessation because this is not the end.
What WiseEclipse Does:
WiseEclipse compares the remaining time of your Lunar Eclipse buff to the cast time of the next Starfire. If the addon determines that the Eclipse will expire before the next Starfire will land, the addon will cancel the Eclipse buff. Due to the inherent client > server latency, you are determined to both have the Eclipse buff and not have the Eclipse buff. Allow me to explain.
How WiseEclipse Works:
As you finish a Starfire cast, WiseEclipse evaluates the remaining Eclipse time vs. the cast time of the next Starfire. The client registers that the spell was cast and is waiting for the server to determine if the cast was a critical strike or not. In this tiny amount of time, WiseEclipse cancels the Eclipse buff. Now the client does not register an Eclipse buff while the server does. If the Starfire was a critical strike, (which is highly likely because it was cast when the server thought you had a Lunar Eclipse buff) then the client receives that information and checks the Solar Eclipse cooldown, since
the client does not have a Lunar Eclipse buff active. Assuming your Solar Eclipse was off cooldown, you will proc a Solar Eclipse and move right into casting Wrath. Absolutely zero downtime between a Lunar and a Solar Eclipse. Spiffy, huh?
Morality and Ethics:
I'm not here to tell you if it's wrong or right. I'm here to tell you what it is and how it works. I will also tell you that I use the addon because it makes what was previously a thought intensive process simple. I like simplicity. If you feel that this addon plays the game for you, you have every right to abstain from its use. Let me be clear about one thing though. WiseEclipse does
not violate game mechanics. It is rooted in the exact same logic that the /stopcasting macros of BC displayed. Blizzard remedied /stopcasting by introducing the spell queue system. They did not rampantly ban everyone using these macros. WiseEclipse takes advantage of the latency between the server and the client in a non-malicious and creative way.
Gains:
WiseEclipse will not double your DPS. However, WiseEclipse will make a decent impact on your DPS. What it does is increase the uptime of Eclipse in your cycle. As expected, this will increase your DPS. Keep in mind that a Solar precasting phase at a lowly 40% crit would take about 7 seconds. Essentially, a druid using WiseEclipse would save 7 seconds every cycle. Due to this, a sample druid with 3k SP and 40% crit would go from ~6400 DPS to ~7000 DPS. Quite impressive for some nifty thinking.
Clairvoyance (Caveat):
I'm going to attempt to be clairvoyant here and suggest that users of this addon not get overly comfortable with this addon. I do anticipate that Blizzard will change the internal mechanics of Eclipse so that this isn't possible. My logic is simply that Blizzard did not balance Moonkin and Eclipse uptime with this type of spell canceling in mind. I also believe the fix will be incredibly simple. I think Blizzard will place a 15 second internal cooldown on Eclipse so that the buff must be allowed to expire naturally or canceled early for no benefit.

Heh.. interesting. Will give it a try. Thanks for sharing this.
Oh, it works well for me. The oly issu I have with it, you can't turn it off. Sounds crazy to say but high movement fights or right when I norm put my DoTs back up it auto procs and then I just rotate. I think I have to work with it a little and it should boost my DPS
Howdy.
So I use quartz and i'm trying to understand the time frame in which this addon works.
Say there is a 220ms latency between my client and the server. This addon is essentially clicking off my eclipse proc to increase the chance of me proc'ing again? All within 220ms latency?
I'm eager to try it out but i agree that there is some auto-decision making items happening in this mod that i'm uneasy about.
However, it not much different than stop casts and heck, even quartz.
